Diagnostic radiology

Consultant expertise
in diagnostic imaging

Dr Raham Karimaghaei is a consultant diagnostic and interventional radiologist, with completed UK specialist training in Clinical Radiology and Interventional Radiology.

His training and practice span ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI, combining diagnostic interpretation with the clinical judgement and procedural skills of an interventional radiologist.

Imaging expertise

Four complementary
ways to investigate

Different examinations reveal different aspects of anatomy and disease. His role is to select and interpret imaging in relation to the clinical question, previous investigations and the wider clinical picture.

Sound-wave imaging

Ultrasound & Doppler

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce real-time images of organs and soft tissues. Doppler techniques provide additional information about blood flow.

It is used across abdominal, pelvic, vascular and superficial imaging, and to guide selected biopsies and drainage procedures.

Real-time X-ray imaging

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy uses X-rays to show movement and the passage of contrast in real time. It supports selected diagnostic examinations and image-guided procedures.

Applications include gastrointestinal and urinary tract examinations, angiography and the guidance of minimally invasive treatment.

Cross-sectional imaging

Computed tomography (CT)

CT combines X-ray images and computer reconstruction to produce detailed cross-sectional views of the body, including the chest, abdomen, pelvis and blood vessels.

It supports diagnosis, assessment of disease extent and evaluation of treatment response, as well as the planning and guidance of selected procedures.

Magnetic resonance imaging

MRI

MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images, particularly of soft tissues. It provides a different range of information from CT and ultrasound.

Different imaging sequences help characterise findings, assess organs and blood vessels, and inform diagnosis and treatment planning.

Diagnostic & interventional radiology

From imaging
to intervention

As an interventional radiologist, he also uses imaging to plan and guide minimally invasive procedures. This practical experience complements his diagnostic work, particularly where findings influence the choice or delivery of treatment.

His practice includes vascular and non-vascular interventions, embolisation therapy, and image-guided biopsy and drainage.
